Weekly 2-Hour Country Music Show is the First National Radio Program Dedicated to Saluting Men and Women in Uniform

US-99.5’s Ramblin’ Ray Stevens to Host

Singer-Songwriter Laura Bryna to Serve as Correspondent

United Stations Radio Networks, Inc., (USRN) an independent leader in the creation and marketing of network radio programming, produces and distributing a new Country Music program called SERVING YOUR COUNTRY that will mix the Contemporary Country format with coverage of the activities in the realm of the U.S. military abroad and first responders at home.   SERVING YOUR COUNTRY will be a music-intensive, 2-hour weekly program anchored by the award-winning morning man from WUSN/Chicago (US-99.5), Ray Stevens, also known as “Ramblin’ Ray.” The announcement came from USRN’s EVP/Programming, Andy Denemark at the company’s headquarters in New York City.

Singer-songwriter Laura Bryna will join Ray Stevens for several segments per week on Serving Your Country to deliver requests, the “Letters from Home” and other listener interaction on the show.  Laura has extensive experience providing entertainment and moral support for our troops and their families.   She is a celebrity spokesperson for the U.S. Air National Guard as well as The National Guard Youth Foundation, a group that works with at-risk youth.   Laura has been on a number of military bases and donned a uniform herself to go airborne in an F-16 fighter jet.  The Maryland native released her debut album, titled Trying to Be Me in 2008, and that same year, released the song “Hometown Heroes,” which has become a popular anthem at her many appearances at various military functions.   Laura Bryna continues to write and record, and while she has a new album on the way and loves the glitz and glamour of entertaining, she is especially gratified when called upon to perform for military personnel.

Serving Your Country is an in-house creation at United Stations and the program is unique in the landscape of network radio.   The show is the first program created for commercial, over-the-air radio stations to be centered on news, interviews, commentary, stories and listener interaction revolving primarily around the everyday heroes who make up our nation’s military personnel.   Perhaps no other format on the radio dial does more promotionally as well as in charity efforts tied into supporting our troops than the Country format, and Serving Your Country will spotlight all manner of heroic activities.  Numerous Country recording artists have already contributed segments to the program, and both a toll-free number and a website have been set up to enable listeners to make requests, dedications and air “Letters From Home” sent out to loved ones and friends who are stationed away from home.   The series launches during the broadcast week of April 1, 2013 with a weekend airdate of April 6-7 for the first episode.   USRN will handle both national ad sales and affiliate relations for the program.  Audio samples of the new show can be found on the United Stations website under Country programming, while more info and opportunities to interact with the program will be found at www.ServingYourCountry.us.

Ramblin’ Ray Stevens’ career in radio began in 1987, and for the past 21 years he’s been part of the morning show at WUSN Chicago, known locally as US 99.5, CBS Radio’s Country outlet in that market.  Ray has particularly been fond of his last 5 years at that station during which he’s been paired with Lisa Dent.  Ray has won or been nominated for just about every major award in radio, including several Country Music Association (CMA) and Academy of Country Music (ACM) broadcast awards.   For Ray, winning the CMA major market personality of the year in 2010 was a career highlight, and Lisa and Ray’s morning show won the Country Radio Broadcasters’ Major Market talent award for the three years in a row.  Lisa and Ray were also recently nominated for the coveted Marconi award.   Perhaps Ray’s favorite honor is his ‘Semper Fi’ award for his work on behalf of our troops both at home and abroad.  It’s the highest Marine honor to be bestowed upon a civilian.  Regarding his gig as host for Serving Your Country, Ray says “I’m very proud of this show…it’s our way of saying thanks to those folks who provide our freedom…it’s just huge, and I know they LOVE the gesture!”

Regarding the start of this new show, USRN’s head of programming, Andy Denemark said, “The concept for this show just seemed like a natural.   Country radio stations, the Nashville community, the format’s biggest stars and even a number of our sponsors ALL do more than their fair share to show support for our American servicemen and women.   We thought that if we could capture that spirit with a weekly program, we just might create a winning show that also pays it forward by honoring our bravest with awareness and recognition.”
